Our Process

The process matters because everything matters. Shortcuts never work.

At Mindfully Made Farm, we believe good products start long before a batch is made. They begin with the way the animals are cared for, the feed we choose, the water they drink, the way goats are milked, the way animals are handled, the way lard is rendered, and the care and gratitude brought to every step before an ingredient is ever used.

We make things slowly because that is what the work deserves.

Old-world process

Much of our process is shaped by our founder Kati’s old-world Eastern European roots. Born in Hungary, she grew up around farm life and learned by watching her grandmother raise animals, process meat, cook from scratch, preserve food, and use what the farm provided.

That knowledge still shapes the way we work today: understand the source, use simple tools, let nothing go to waste, honor the animal, respect the process, and do the work with care.

From our farm

Most of our products begin with ingredients from our own farm.

Our goat milk comes from our herd. Our Mangalitsa lard comes from pigs raised with care and processed with respect. We render the lard by hand and use it as the foundation for many of our soaps, candles, lotions, balms, and other goods.

That matters to us because we know where it came from. We know how the animals were treated. We know the work behind it.

The Bare Bar standard

The Bare Bar is the product that started everything.

It is made with raw goat milk from our herd, hand-rendered lard from our timber-raised Mangalitsa pigs, and lye. No scents. No colors. No BS.

The Bare Bar embodies the standard behind everything we do: simple ingredients we can account for, handled with care, and made with reverence from start to finish.

Lye and real soapmaking

Sodium hydroxide, also called lye, is required to make real soap. Traditionally, lye was made from wood ash and water.

During saponification, lye reacts with fats and is used up through the soapmaking process. With proper formulation, careful preparation, and adequate curing, the lye has done its work and is no longer present as excess lye in the finished bar.

Real soap cannot be made without lye. That is part of true soapmaking: simple ingredients, properly handled, transformed through the process.

Off-farm ingredients

Not every ingredient comes from our farm yet. When we use off-farm ingredients, we choose them with extreme care.

That means we look for quality, purity, and sources that match the standard we keep. We are not interested in crazy supply chains, wild manufacturing processes, mystery blends, synthetic fragrances, unnecessary fillers, or ingredients added just because they make a product easier to produce or sell.

Every ingredient has to earn its place.

Small-batch work

Our products are made in small batches because small batches make room for care.

They let us watch the process closely, maintain quality, and make adjustments when needed. Handmade goods will naturally vary a bit in color, scent, shape, texture, and weight. That variation is part of the work, not a defect.

Our goods are made by hand to be used, not by machine to look identical.

What we mean by clean

To us, clean does not mean trendy. It means simple, accountable, and useful.

It means no synthetic fragrances, no artificial colorants, no unnecessary fillers, and no mystery ingredients. When we use color, we use simple natural ingredients like turmeric and cocoa, not lab-made dyes.

Every ingredient we use has a known source, a clear purpose, and a high standard it has to meet before it earns a place in the product.

Clean means making things we are comfortable bringing into our own home, putting on our own skin, and using in the daily life of our family.
